Desktop version — coming soon. Printing to a real printer is part of the desktop version. The web version downloads documents as PDF; to print, print the downloaded PDF from your usual program.
In the desktop version, the settings in the bottom bar determine how the selected pages are printed.
Copies and confirmation
You set the number of copies in the bottom bar; copies are printed collated (each copy is a complete set). If the number of copies is greater than 1, a confirmation appears before printing, showing how many sheets in total the pages and copies add up to.
Double-sided
- One-sided — each page on its own sheet.
- Long edge — double-sided, flips like a book.
- Short edge — double-sided, flips like a calendar.
The printer itself does the double-sided printing; Deste asks the driver for it (through the printer settings on Windows, through a CUPS option on Linux). Your printer needs to be able to print double-sided. Because the whole job is sent as a single print job, the pages pair up correctly.
Eco
Lowers toner or ink use by lightening the page’s pixels toward white before printing. There are Off, Light, Medium and High levels; the preview shows the effect exactly.
Black-and-white
Prints pages in grayscale; on a color printer it uses no color ink.
Blank-page check
Before printing, Deste finds nearly blank pages and lists them; by marking which ones not to print, you avoid wasting paper.
Vector or raster
- With no filter (black-and-white and eco both off), pages are printed as vectors: text and lines come out sharp, at the printer’s resolution.
- With black-and-white or eco on, since these are pixel operations, the page is processed and printed as an image.
You get the sharpest output when you don’t use a filter.
Output options
- Print — sends the selected pages to your default printer.
- Print with dialog — opens the system print dialog, where you choose the printer and driver-specific settings.
- Save PDF — merges the selected pages into a single PDF; see Saving as PDF.
